The lessons that really hit home for me (from the article):
- Stay with your buddy. If you plan to dive as a buddy team, you should dive as a buddy team: When one buddy calls the dive and heads for the surface, you should ascend together.
- Prepare for a dive properly. This includes inspecting your equipment to make sure it’s in good working order and that you have enough breathing gas in your cylinder to do the job you plan to accomplish — whether it’s retrieving an anchor or simply going for a recreational dive.
- Don’t attempt to lift heavy objects with just any equipment. Seek training in lift techniques and use a dedicated lift bag separate from your own equipment.
Along with my thoughts and experiences while diving, I felt like it was a good thing to also include things that should be shared. I don’t do this to frighten people away from diving, but rather to help those who are divers or are going to be to have a more safe diving experience.
